The Author: Born in country NSW, spent 60% of his life (so far) in the Country Music Capital of Tamworth and now resides on the NSW Central Coast. Has a BA in Communications, majoring in Information Management, and has been writing (creatively) for over 30 years.
Along the way, there have been particular players on my rosters that I have become "fond" of. Seeing I have played more with undead than any other team, naturally they dominate this compilation, but there are a few from other races that has made this list. The players are listed in chronological order, from teamsheets starting in 1994.
1. Otto Burgermeister (Thrower) - Ostland Bulls (Humans), 7-4-3-8. Sure Hands, Pass, Accurate. 16 CP, 1 TD, 1 Cas, 2 MVP = 31 SPPs. Played 9 matches. Otto, up until August 2008, was still my leading thrower in all the sides that I had ever run. He pretty much carried the Bulls for most of the season, but got off to a bad start when he had three passes intercepted in his first match!
2. Octavia (Ghoul) - Emperors of Rome (Undead), 7-3-3-7. Dodge, Catch, Sure Feet, Sprint, Block. 5 CP, 12 TD, 1 Int, 2 MVP = 53 SPPs. Played 16 matches. Never got injured, and along with Nero, dominated the scoresheet for the EOR side.
3. Nero (Ghoul) - Emperors of Rome (Undead), 7-3-3-7. Dodge, Catch, Jump Up, Sure Hands. 9 CP, 12 TD = 45 SPPs. Played 16 matches. Along with Octavia, these two dominated the scoresheet for this team. He never got injured either.
4. Trajan (Skeleton) - Emperors of Rome (Undead), 5-3-2-7. Regeneration, Block, Dirty Player, Strip Ball. 15 Cas, 3 MVP = 45 SPPs. Played 17 matches. A real bastard, a lot of his casualties were caused by fouls. I don't think he ever got sent off either.
5. Cleopatra (Ghoul) - Tombstone Tridents (Undead), 7-3-3-8. Dodge, Catch, Sure Hands, Sure Feet, Jump Up, Magic Helm. 9 CP, 10 TD, 3 MVP = 54 SPPs. Played 9 matches. Carried the side for the entire season. Scored most of the TDs, got off most of the passes. Head and shoulders above anybody else in that side, and arguably the best player I have ever had.
6. Cleopatra (Ghoul) - Brain Eating Allstars (Undead), 7-2-4-8. Dodge, Block, Catch, Sure Hands, Magic Helm. 6 CP, 9 TD, 2 Cas, 3 MVP = 52 SPPs. Played 22 matches. Was seriously injured during the middle of her playing career, but recovered well and became an invaluable member of the team.
7. Julius Caeser (Mummy) - Brain Eating Allstars (Undead), 3-5-1-10. Mighty Blow, Regeneration, Block, Frenzy, Dauntless, Tackle, Magic Helm. 11 Cas, 9 MVP = 67 SPPs. Played 23 matches. You may wonder why a mummy has Dauntless and a Magic Helm, but considering the league he was playing in at the time... Was injured 6 times in one match, but recovered every time. Notable MVP hog, but well deserved for all the punishment he took on the pitch.
8. Rokchukka (Thrower) - Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (Orcs), 5-4-3-8. Sure Hands, Pass, Block, Accurate. 6 CP, 4 TD, 2 Cas, 3 MVP = 37 SPPs. Played 10 matches. What can I say? A strength 4 Orc thrower! Wasn't afriad to get his hands dirty either, when not scoring or passing.
9. Allie Syn (Thrall) - XXX (Vampires), 6-3-3-7. Block and Fend. 1 CP, 5 TD, 2 Cas = 20 SPPs. Played 3 matches. Accumulated SPPs very quickly this thrall. Unfortunately, only got three games out of this side, so her career was cut short just when it was starting to take off.
10. Basil Brush (Gutter Runner) - Furry Pirates (Skaven), 9-2-4-6. Dodge, Very Long Legs, Sprint, Sure Feet, Block, Pass Block. 2 CP, 23 TD, 1 Cas, 1 MVP = 78 SPPs. Played 23 matches. A lot of people tried to knock him off, but no-one succeeded. In the first half of his career, he was the one turn TD machine. In the latter stages, he was a defensive player, only running when he had to. Once scored 3 TDs in a game against humans and could've won that game with a fourth if he hadn't tripped over his own feet going for the winner.
11. Ethel Aardvark (Gutter Runner) - Furry Pirates (Skaven), 9-2-4-7. Dodge, Block, Side-step, Diving Catch, Fend, 2 Niggling Injuries. 3 CP, 13 ID, 3 MVP = 57 SPPs. Played 21 matches. Has the rare distinction of being the only player I have ever had who picked up a niggling injury for failing an aging roll (for the short time it was around). Despite acquiring her injuries, she made a major contribution in a play-off match where she scored a hat-trick against a Beastman side. Defied all attempts to get her bumped off during the later half of her career!
12. Doctor Vornoff (Mummy) - Bela Lugosi Fan Club (Khemri), 4-5-1-9. Regeneration, Mighty Blow, Multiple Block, Break Tackle. 10 Cas, 3 MVP = 35 SPPs. Played 14 matches. His career started off brilliantly with four casualties in his first match, which was against a Necromantic side, but struggled to maintain any consistency during his career.
13. Eva Braun (Ogre) - Short & Evil 2 (Halflings), 5-5-2-9. Mighty Blow, Bonehead, Thick Skull, Throw Team Mate, Loner, Strong Arm, Guard. 1 TD, 10 Cas = 23 SPPs. Played 7 matches. Fitted in well with this experimental Halfling Vagabond side. Loved to chuck the little buggers down the pitch, with around 70% of them actually landing successfully. Has the distinction of being the first big guy that I have ever scored with, picking up a bouncing ball then running over half the field to score in a match against a Goblin team.
